Sunday Afternoon in October

Here it is - a lazy Sunday afternoon in October. I am making cranberry muffins for Gunga's preschool snack with the air conditioning on. Yes, it is October in Wisconsin and it is over 85 degrees out.
Yes, Gunga started preschool two weeks ago. He is going to the one that is located in my church two mornings a week. He is quite upset every morning when dropping him off chanting like a young monk in the back seat on the 15 minute ride "I go see Peach" over and over again. Peach, is Gunga's God-mother, his afternoon care-giver and my overall best friend. In response to his "I go see Peach", I reply "After lunch at school". Really, it is quite the intellectual exchange of ideas. . . However, when I pick him up after his lunch he is quite happy to see me. Then the chant changes to "Mama came back!". So, it is a good thing. I am still struggling to get over that he is old enough to go to preschool. That, and he grew like 2-3" over the summer.
Other than that, life is pretty much the same. There are head cuts going on in the eastern market of my company. They have taken my position at 5 different plants and replaced them with one regional accountant. So, who know how much longer before they tell me to pack up my desk and go. In any case, I am not going to hold my breath. That requires way too much concentration. :)
Let's see, what else note worthy has happened in the past two months. . .
  • I went to corporate headquarters for a business trip verifying next years budget calculations. That was a rip roaring good time. Well, not really - but I did get a good dinner with some good beer out of the whole deal.
  • My parents came to visit while awaiting the birth of their newest grandchild. What is really great about them coming to visit - they cook dinner every night!
  • Said grandson was born - healthy and screeching like a raptor two days before my birthday. He is a wide shouldered boy and had to use the emergency escape hatch (my Sis-in Law had a C-Section), but both Mother and Baby made it through everything fine.
  • My husband had his birthday - and declared he did not want to do anything special. In that vein, I took the day to do my normal weekend errands only to come home and find him gone. Turns out the neighbor decided to take him to the local bar within walking distance (which is not that hard in WI) around 3PM. He arrived home stinking drunk at 8PM, pulled it together enough to call his Mum and get her birthday greetings, then proceeded to pass out in the spare room. However, this is not the end of the evening . . . at some point, he got up and went into the other bedroom upstairs, used it as a bathroom (#1 only - thank goodness?), then proceeded to go into our room and pass out again. He denies ever doing this, and does not even show the smallest amount of embarrassment or remorse. There has only been one other time I have seen him this drunk - and that was after his bachelor party. And yes, alcoholism runs in his family. So, he shot up to the top of my shit list and continues to rein there today.
  • We got the roof to our garage replaced. Oddly enough, an old acquaintance was at one my husband's sister's parties and the husband enlisted his services. It turned out alright, but I was nervous that it would only get 1/2 done and then the work would mysteriously stop. Gladly, I was proven wrong.
  • Last weekend, Gunga, Peach, and I took a trek up to my parents for the weekend to take in the fall colors, and visit. It was a nice time, just too short. But, in one aspect it was way long. Gunga decided to throw what I call "grand mal hissy fits" over the littlest and dumbest things. I guess he finally decided to be a terrible two. UGH!
  • Friday was the local Homecoming parade. Am I getting old - or are kids more obnoxious then they use to be. At one time, there was this herd of boys running up and down the street in the middle of the parade scarfing all the candy they could get. It wasn't until after the parade that I saw that his parents were sitting at the other end of this city block. Of course, that is nothing as compared to the parents standing the the street also, egging their precious children to pick up more candy, or the mom of a teen in the parade standing in front of the stroller my son was sitting in. I finally had to ask her to move so that my son could see. What a joke!
Yesterday I took the plunge and bought pull-ups for the boy. Yes, it is time to seriously think about potty training. Wish me luck
Well, I believe that I am up to date. And now it is time to try to cool off!
